I have wanted a serger for awhile and am now interested in buying one, but I have no idea what to look for. I am kind of limited in selection in my area, and I don't want to spend too much right now. The ones I've seen around here are: Brother 1034D at Walmart, and White 1500 at Hancock Fabrics. I'm interested in getting it for occasional home use only. Can anyone tell me anything about these two machines and/or give me advice on what features to look for? Thanks!

I would caution you to purchase a serger where they offer instruction and repair. I made the mistake of buying a low priced serger from a mail order and thought it would be a good machine because it carried the name Singer. It never made nice stiches, and would not hole a tension. I had to take it out of town to a singer repair place and they held it for three months and I finally went and got the machine. The repair man said he worked on it but it would never hold the tension, he did not know what was wrong with it. I am in the same delimma you are in, trying to decide which serger to buy.

I would like to hear from some one who has a good one and what price should I expect to pay for a one.

You can go to google and type in Brother 1034D serger and it will take you to a site that describes that machine. Notice it only has a 90 day warranty.
